Common use
Namzaric is prescribed for patients with moderate to severe Alzheimer’s disease. It combines two medications: memantine, which regulates glutamate activity to improve brain cell communication, and donepezil, an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that increases acetylcholine levels to support memory and cognitive function.
Dosage and direction
Namzaric is typically taken once daily in the evening, with or without food. The dosage is based on previous treatment with memantine and donepezil. Capsules may be swallowed whole or opened and sprinkled on soft food without chewing. Follow your healthcare provider’s dosing instructions carefully.
Precautions
Before using Namzaric, inform your doctor if you have heart problems (especially slow heartbeat or conduction abnormalities), liver or kidney disease, seizures, stomach ulcers, or urinary issues. The drug may cause dizziness or fainting, so caution is advised when driving or standing up quickly.
Contraindications
Namzaric is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to memantine, donepezil, piperidines, or any formulation components. It should not be used in patients experiencing severe allergic reactions to similar medications.
Possible side effect
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, insomnia, and fatigue. More serious effects may include slow heartbeat, fainting, seizures, stomach bleeding, or severe allergic reactions. Seek medical attention if serious symptoms occur.
Drug interaction
Namzaric may interact with anticholinergic drugs, NMDA antagonists (such as amantadine or ketamine), certain heart medications, muscle relaxants, and medications that affect heart rhythm. Always inform your doctor of all prescription drugs, OTC products, and supplements you are taking.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is close to the next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your usual regimen. Do not take two doses at once.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include severe nausea, vomiting, sweating, slow heartbeat, seizures, respiratory problems, or collapse. Seek immediate medical assistance if overdose is suspected.
Storage
Store at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep the medication in its original container and out of reach of children and pets.
