Common use

Edarbi (azilsartan medoxomil) is prescribed for the management of hypertension in adults. It works as an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), preventing the action of angiotensin II — a hormone that narrows blood vessels — thus lowering blood pressure and improving blood flow.

Dosage and direction

Edarbi is usually taken once daily, with or without food. Swallow tablets whole with water. Dosage is adjusted based on blood pressure response, kidney function, and other medications. Regular blood pressure monitoring is recommended.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, heart problems, or a history of low blood pressure. Avoid potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium unless prescribed, as Edarbi may increase potassium levels.

Contraindications

Do not use Edarbi if allergic to azilsartan medoxomil or any component of the tablet. It is contraindicated during pregnancy or in patients with severe liver impairment.

Possible side effect

Common side effects include dizziness, headache, fatigue, and mild gastrointestinal symptoms. Serious side effects may include low blood pressure, kidney problems, or high potassium levels. Seek medical attention if severe symptoms occur.

Drug interaction

Edarbi may interact with other blood pressure medications, diuretics, potassium supplements, or NSAIDs. Inform your doctor about all prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, and supplements you are taking.

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is near the time for the next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose.

Overdose

Overdose may cause severe dizziness, low blood pressure, or kidney problems. Seek immediate medical attention if overdose is suspected.

Storage

Store Edarbi at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep tablets in the original container and out of reach of children.
