Common use

Baraclude (entecavir) is prescribed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults and children. It works as a nucleoside analogue, inhibiting HBV DNA polymerase, which reduces viral replication and helps protect the liver from further damage.

Dosage and direction

Baraclude is usually taken once daily, with or without food. Tablets or oral solution should be swallowed whole. Dosage depends on age, kidney function, previous HBV treatment, and the presence of liver complications. Regular monitoring of liver function and viral load is recommended.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems, liver disease, or a history of lactic acidosis. Do not stop the medication abruptly without medical supervision, as it may cause a flare-up of hepatitis.

Contraindications

Do not use Baraclude if allergic to entecavir or any component of the formulation.

Possible side effect

Missed dose

Overdose

Overdose may cause nausea, vomiting, or worsening kidney function. Seek immediate medical attention if overdose is suspected.

Storage

Store Baraclude at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep tablets or oral solution in the original container and out of reach of children.
